Angie Bommarito and Arielle Finch cracked the top 10 to help pace the Douglas High School girls to third-place as a team in the Tahoe Basin Ski League's season-opening giant slalom on Wednesday afternoon at Alpine Meadows.
Bommarito sped to second-place in the girls race with a combined time of 1 minute, 9.53 seconds for two runs. The Douglas sophomore posted the second fastest times in the field for each run (36.18 and 33.35), and finished behind only Whittell's Corky Novotny, who won the race with a 1:04.30 clocking.
Meanwhile, Finch placed sixth for Douglas with a 1:12.14 effort while Kelsey Newell finished 15th and Anne Paya 29th.
Douglas finished third in the girls team standings with 144 points. North Tahoe was first with 170 points, followed by South Tahoe with 147.
Overall, Douglas wound up sixth in the combined girls and boys team scoring with 199 points. South Tahoe and North Tahoe finished in a first-place tie with 322 points each.
Lysle Turnbeaugh was the top finisher for the Douglas boys with a 28th place finish.
The next Tahoe Basin League event will be held next Wednesday at a site still to be determined.
