A Carson City couple arrested earlier this month on suspicion of drug dealing waived their opportunity for a preliminary hearing and plan to plea bargain with prosecutors, according to a defense attorney.
Patricia Rios-Burgara, 37, and Jesus Rios-Burgara, 29, were arrested on Aug. 4 on suspicion of felony trafficking of methamphetamine, possession of a controlled substance for sale and possession of a methamphetamine. They were held on $20,000 bail each.
Kay Ellen Armstrong, conflict counsel for Patricia Rios-Burgara, said that a plea bargain will likely be worked out in the next couple of weeks although she wouldn't say what the conditions of that agreement might be.
The initial bust was made when Tri-Net agents entered the couple's home after following up on a tip of reported drug dealing. According to officials, agents found 10 grams of methamphetamine, a scale and a .357 magnum handgun.
