DAYTON - People interested in learning more about the Central Lyon County Fire District's proposed tax increase are invited to attend a special informational meeting Saturday.
The public meeting is being held to present facts relating to district needs, emergency response times and other pertinent information related the proposed tax initiative. The board also wants public input regarding concerns with the primarily volunteer fire district and whether there is sentiment to pay for additional full-time personnel.
The district's current tax rate in the 2000-01 proposed budget is 30 cents per $100 of assessed valuation. Board members have suggest an increase of at least 12 cents will be needed to meet additional, long-range personnel needs.
Other Lyon County Fire District rates include: Mason Valley, 16 cents/$100; Smith Valley, 20 cents/$100; and Fernley, 13.6 cents/$100.
Central Lyon County Fire District, however, has eight stations covering an area from Silver City to Silver Springs and is one of the most rapidly growing regions in Nevada.
