LAS VEGAS - Police are investigating the assault of a 4-year-old girl in a men's restroom at a Summerlin park on Easter Sunday.

Police say the incident was discovered at mid-afternoon when a woman heard the girl's cries coming from the bathroom at the Hills Park on Hillpointe Road.

Detective Kevin Johnson said the girl's swimsuit was on backwards and a man was seen running from the area.

The child was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where she underwent an examination for sexual assault.

Police did not elaborate on the natrue of the attack or say whether the girl appeared to be molested or raped.

The girl's father said he could not believe his daughter was attacked while the park was filled with so many people.

''I never take my eyes off my kids,'' he said. ''But she was just going to play over the hill.''

He said the girl followed others in the family group to play in the park's water fountains, about 15 feet away from the restroom.

''This is not a bad part of town,'' the father said. ''You don't really worry about this type of thing happening to your kids when you're in a park with so much of your family.''
