An apparent lover's quarrel Wednesday ended with a woman being taken to the hospital with a self-inflicted stab wound to the chest.
Officers were called out to a stabbing on South Carson Street around 3:30 p.m. When they arrived the victim had fled the scene on foot. A description of a vehicle was broadcast on police radios and an unmarked police car spotted the vehicle heading north on Silversage Drive. Officers stopped the car on Carson Street near Fairview Drive.
The 18-year-old female was found in the vehicle and admitted to stabbing herself in the chest, said Carson City Sheriff's Department Deputy Bob Guimont. Also in the car was her 20-year-old boyfriend, who told deputies he and his girlfriend had a fight and she threatened to stab herself and did.
According to Guimont, the girl ran off with her boyfriend in pursuit. When he caught up with her he put her in the car and was taking her to the hospital when police stopped them.
The female was taken to Carson-Tahoe Hospital where she was taken by Care Flight helicopter to Washoe Medical Center. Her condition was not known, although the injury was not believed to be life-threatening.
