I feel compelled to write to you and voice my objection to the headline in this week's Appeal that so boldly stated that Krystal Steadman's "throat was slit."
I personally feel that a more responsible journalistic approach would have been to state the headline, "cause of death found" and reveal the particular details in the text of the article.
I am a reader who would choose not to read an article that describes the gruesome details of how Krystal was so senselessly and tragically murdered. I also chose not to subject the children who come into my store on the way to school to such a gruesome headline.
You have a responsibility to report events of our community, and I have always felt the Appeal has covered the news in a fair and responsible manner. But in this case, I feel the line in fairness to our community was crossed.
