The cleanup job doesn't stop at your property line.

The Clean Tahoe Program, host of the Community Cleanup Day, invites residents to join in trash collection efforts Saturday at trouble spots on the South Shore.

"It's places like behind McDonald's at the 'Y,' the bike trail behind Meeks Lumber and the meadow on Blackwood Road," said Joann Eisenbrandt, Clean Tahoe Program assistant.

One such spot, on James Avenue, will be picked over by staff and volunteers from the League to Save Lake Tahoe, the nonprofit environmental group dedicated to preserving environmental balance in the Lake Tahoe Basin. The field is located behind the League's office at 955 Emerald Bay Road.

Heidi Hill Drum, the League's communications director, said anyone is welcome to join in the effort.

"We hope that the businesses around James Avenue will participate in this effort to help keep Tahoe clean as every effort like this relates to keeping Tahoe blue," Hill Drum said. "The Clean Tahoe Program does a great job here in town and we are happy to help in whatever way we can."

Show up at the League's office at 10 a.m. Saturday to volunteer for the cleanup of James Avenue. Refreshments will be provided.

Volunteers can sign up to clean up other community parcels at the Clean Tahoe Program offices at 2717 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. Or call (530) 544-4210.
