The Stewart Indian School, the Fourth Ward School and Piper's Opera House are among several historical structures seeking grants from the state Commission for Cultural Affairs.
Statewide, there are $8.7 million in requests to preserve historical structures in Nevada - but just $2.1 million available.
After the commission meets Thursday and Friday, many of the 30 organizations that have sent in grant requests may go away empty-handed or with a lot less than what they requested.
The Urban Indian Consortium wants $695,180 for renovation of some of the old Stewart Indian School buildings in Carson City.
The Virginia City requests include one for $414,263 for the old Fourth Ward School; and $449,300 for Piper's Opera House.
