There will be a series of hunter education classes offered in Carson City in the near future.
Successful completion of a hunter education class is required in the State of Nevada for anyone born after Dec. 31, 1959 who intends to purchase a Nevada hunting license.
There is a nominal charge for the class.
All students must pre-register, obtain course materials and complete a workbook prior to attending the class.
The Carson City classes are taught by volunteer instructors certified by the Nevada Division of Wildlife NDOW).
They will be held at the Capitol City Gun Club, just off Arrowhead Drive near the Eagle Valley West Golf Course.
Some of the subjects to be covered include the safe handling of rifles, pistols and handguns, hunter ethics, conservation, first-aid and wilderness survival.
Most people requiring the course are interested in applying for big game tags, which are awarded through various computerized drawings conducted by NDOW. The deadline for receiving those applications is April 17.
For information, call the Capital City Gun Club at 882-9904, Wednesdays through Sundays, or Les Smith, hunter education coordinator for NDOW, at 688-1500.
