Jan Thomas, the Nevada Senate's chief secretary whose staccato delivery of innumerable legislative details has been an upper house fixture since 1983, is retiring.

Thomas' state government career spans 33 years. Other posts included key assignments at the state Gaming Control Board.

She'll be replaced by Jesse Clift, the media clerk on the Senate front desk during legislative sessions.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Raggio, R-Reno, praised Thomas on Tuesday, saying, ''She has done an excellent job and will be missed by everyone.''
