Northern Nevada District competition for the 28th Elks Hoop Shoot, a national free-throw shooting contest for youngsters ages 8 through 13, will be in the Carson High School gymnasium today.
Sign-up begins at 9 a.m. and competition starts at 10 a.m.
First place champions from Reno, Sparks, Minden/Douglas and Carson City will be competing in this event.
Each contestant has 25 shots at the hoop. The boy and girl in each age group with the best scores advance through four tiers of competition to qualify for the national finals.
Northern district winners will compete against other contestants in the northern district event in Carson City. Names of the national winners will be inscribed on the Elks National Hoop Shoot plaque on permanent display in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass.
