Letter: Miller must be kidding about gay marriage

Reference an article by Kit Miller titled, "For the sake of tourism, let's legalize gay marriage." Was she kidding? I hope so.

After reading her article, I cannot describe how I felt; however, I cannot let an issue such as "gay marriages" go unrefuted. Gay marriages, whether male or female, are condemned by God and certain elements in our society. He is the sole authority, not man's own thoughts, whether it is right or wrong. We are God-created. our whole life, existence and being should be to the glory of God.

She justifies it solely on the basis of materialism. I justify my opposition solely on the basis of Holy Scripture and nothing else. Let scripture interpret scripture.

All this gain in material wealth is to no avail, when it too will pass away at the "end times" of the earth. Signs of the "end times" are more prevalent today than heretofore. Christ states, "What does it profit a man if he should gain the whole world, yet lose his own soul? (Mark 8:36.)

Take time to think about this issue of homosexuality. A man's eternal destiny - either heaven or hell, is more important than anything else in this world.

Originally, we were made in the image of God. In Genesis 2:18, God said, "It is not good for man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." God didn't mean man is to live with man or woman is to live with woman. They are diametrically 180 degrees "off key." Fortunately, after man's fall into sin, God promised them a savior - Jesus Christ. We are all sinners and we need God's forgiveness through Jesus Christ daily.

Ironically, we are simultaneously saints and sinners. Let's live as saints. By faith in Jesus Christ, we are justified to stand (without fear) on Judgment Day for the deeds we have done. The wicked or unforgiven have reason to tremble on that day.

Now is the time "to turn away" from impurity. Scripture states, "Now is the day of salvation" (2 Cor. 6:2). The sin of homosexuality can and will be forgiven. God wants all to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.

The long-range implications of "gay marriages" disturb me. This is counter to our traditional family; moreover, for one to continue in the sinful state, without repentance (change of lifestyle) means countless souls will be lost and condemned to hell. Children living in this environment will only perpetuate their lifestyle to others and be lost too.

Who do we follow? God or man? Because it is legalized, doesn't mean it is right. Abortion has been legalized but that doesn't mean it is right. Where there is conflict with God's ordinances and man's, we are to follow God's laws.

Our nation was founded under God. God is the ultimate authority.

Dr. Martin Luther's small catechism gave some pertinent advice on marriages (not gay marriages) on how to live. Under the Sixth Commandment (moral law), we are to live a chaste and decent life in thought, word and deed. Each one is to love and honor his spouse.

If one person, after reading this article, changes his or her lifestyle, the cost of publishing is well worth it.
