The Black Rock Desert is a magnificent place that deserves our protection. While Nevada has extensive public lands, precious little of them are actually protected.
In all the conservation efforts in our history, starting as far back as Yellowstone National Park in the 1870s, is there one place that we regret having protected?
here is an epidemic of shortsightedness in this country, and I hope that the Black Rock Desert is not one of its victims. If partisan politics allow for the protection of a handful of cows at the expense of a rare geological and historical gem, then we in Nevada have surely succumbed to that epidemic.
