Carson City Supervisor Pete Livermore will have triple bypass surgery today.
Livermore said Monday that during his annual checkup, his doctor found indications that there could be problems with his heart.
Because Carson-Tahoe Hospital doesn't do open heart surgery, Livermore decided to go to Washoe Medical Center for the optional surgery. He is a member of the Carson-Tahoe Hospital Board of Trustees.
"I have no pain. It's just something we found," Livermore said. "Hopefully, we'll get it fixed and I'll live another 30 years.
"I won't be at the (supervisor's) meeting Thursday," he joked.
He said he is otherwise healthy.
He expects to spend between six and eight days in the hospital after his surgery and up to six weeks in rehabilitation.
Livermore, 59, was elected to the Ward 3 supervisor's position in 1998. He has lived in Carson City since his days with the U.S. Marine Corps ended in 1962.
Since 1971 he has owned and operated A&W Restaurants in Carson City, before that he worked for the Nevada Highway Department and the U.S. Postal Service.
He has also served on the city's Parks and Recreation Commission, the Carson City Youth Sports Association and as a state commissioner and local officer for Bobby Sox softball.
