Mills Park to have new parking

Speculation about a parking plan on Highway 50 East along Mills Park came to an end Thursday.

Carson City supervisors committed to the construction of 57 parking spaces along the park fence. The temporary spaces will cost almost $53,000 and changing the spaces to permanent ones with landscaping will add $113,200 to the cost.

The bike path running outside the fence will have to be moved inside Mills Park. The path will be moved during the temporary construction phase.

Supervisors Robin Williamson said she hoped moving the bike path inside the fence would be the last intrusion on the turf at Mills Park. She said adding things to the park was fine, but "sometimes just having grass is nice."

No funding is available right now for the parking, but Mayor Ray Masayko said supervisors would revisit the issue in November when they know if one-shot fund monies are available. Masayko said construction could begin sometime next spring.
