More than 2,211 books were donated for the recent Children in Transition book drive.

Members of the Karson Kruzers and the Telephone Pioneers expect to be finished passing out the books by Wednesday, according to project chairperson Lee Radtke.

"We will allow the children to pick three books of their choice and after everyone is covered we will provide the remaining books to the school-sponsored reading clubs," Radtke said.

In addition to Radtke and his wife, nine other volunteers spent a Sunday sorting the books.

Karson Kruzers Margo Davis, Lorretta Marcin, Barbara and Amy Snodgrass were joined by Don and Patty Rose of the Telephone Pioneers and the Carson City School District's Kim Riggs in sorting the books by grade level.

Radtke invited anyone with books to donate to contact him at 885-8166 or Riggs at 885-6294.

Seven businesses served as book drops for the drive, including Total Computer Services, Big O Tire, Carson Dodge Chrysler, Albertson's, Kmart employees, Kennedy's Books and East Carson Wells Fargo Bank employees.

Organizations included City Hall, the Carson Valley Quilt Guild. Schools involved were Fremont Elementary, Mark Twain Elementary, Gleason, Seeliger Elementary and Carson High.
