CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Wyoming authorities said they will seek to extradite two Nevada suspects in the armed robbery of a cigarette store and a high-speed chase that ended two hours later in Nebraska.
David A. Banford, 21, of Sparks, Nev., was being held in Sidney, Neb., on robbery charges, and Christie M. Southerd, 18, also of Sparks, was being detained in Kimball, Neb., on aiding and abetting robbery.
The two stole $176 from a Cigarettes Cheaper! store at Cheyenne's Cole Shopping Center on Saturday evening, then eluded officers by driving on county roads, through fields and on and off Interstate 80, authorities said.
The chase, which reached speeds of 100 mph, also included the suspects traveling the wrong way on I-80 in Nebraska and threatening via cellular phone to cause a head-on crash, Wyoming Highway Patrol Sgt. Perry Jones said.
The interstate in western Nebraska was closed down for more than an hour.
The suspects were stopped after Nebraska Highway Patrol troopers placed spikes on U.S. 385 north of Sidney, flattening the tires on their sport utility vehicle.
Wyoming plans to seek extradition, if necessary, Laramie County Assistant District Attorney Tom Lee said. Nebraska prosecutors likely will not press charges, he said.
