Nevadans not willing to forsake values

I'm writing concerning an article in the Jan. 12 paper under Fresh Ideas, "For the sake of tourism, let's legalize gay marriage." Mrs. Miller seems to think that all Nevada residents are as liberal as she is. Well, I have news for you, there are still some of us who believe in the sanctity of marriage and more importantly in the guidelines that the Bible has given us.

Scriptures strictly forbid the unnatural relationship between persons of the same sex (read Romans 1:26-32). This scripture tells you that this "lifestyle" is an abomination to the Lord.

As Christians, we're encouraged to be kind, forgiving and understanding. We do strive for this, but we're also encouraged not to condone sins. Instead, we pray for these individuals' salvation and we ask our Lord and Savior to change their hearts and open their eyes to the error of their ways.

Mrs. Miller states in her article that legalizing gay marriages will bring money for Nevada. Is this what principles and morals have come to? Have we put the mighty dollar ahead of our values? I pray not.

Yes, Nevada is a state where we have legalized gambling, quick wedding chapels and people come here to spend money, but this doesn't mean that we all have to give up family values and accept the "live-and-let-live" slogan.

I love living in Nevada, and I'm thankful that I don't have to pay state taxes because the state gets its money from the casinos, but this doesn't mean I go gamble or condone gambling. I don't see how legalizing gay marriages will bring happiness to anyone. On the contrary, I think it's kind of sad.

This letter will probably be viewed as bigotry against gay people, but it isn't. I don't hate them, I just believe they're wrong. If they had a relationship with the living God, read their Bibles and knew God's word, they would know that their lifestyle is against God's commandments. Remember our country was founded on the Bible, and it seems to me that more and more people are trying to go their way and not follow God's way. Let's not make Nevada the next Sodom and Gomorrah.
