Obituary: Charles Younkin

Charles Franklin Younkin, 84, a Carson City resident since 1997, died Dec. 31, 1999, at Carson-Tahoe Hospital.

He was born May 2, 1915, in Topeka, Kan., to Samuel and Virginia Davis Younkin.

A World War II veteran, Mr. Younkin served for many years as a chaplain for the American Legion in Grass Valley, Calif.

He was a retired psychiatric technician and had worked at DeWitt State Hospital in California.

Mr. Younkin was preceded in death by sisters Maxine Ellis and Virginia Hillard and brother Samuel Younkin.

He is survived by brother Kenneth Younkin of New Jersey; nephews Samuel Coe of Petaluma, Calif., David Coe of Auburn, Calif., and Ellwood Ellis of South Lake Tahoe.; and nieces Terry Yeager of Carson City and Dana Schimmelman of Lander, Wyo.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date.

Cremation will be at Walton's Sierra Crematory.

Walton's Chapel of the Valley is in charge of arrangements.
