A memorial service for Fred Hunt, 74, a Carson City resident for the past 32 years, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Fitzhenry's Funeral Home.
Mr. Hunt died April 14, 2000, at his home. He was born Feb. 10, 1926, in Roseville, Calif., to Samuel J. and Irene Tuter Hunt.
Prior to moving to Carson City, he lived in McCloud and Tracy, Calif.
Mr. Hunt was owner of Fred Hunt Trucking for 25 years, a construction worker and a real estate broker-salesman for 22 years. He retired in 1995. He was a member of NASCAR, Northern Auto Racing Club and Sierra Nevada Auto Racing Association. He enjoyed a 25-year racing career which included motorcycles, NASCAR hardtops and late model stock cars, midgets, sprint cars, modifieds and super modifieds. At one time he was owner/operator of the Altamont Speedway and ran races in Carson City and Stockton, San Jose, Belmont and Lodi, Calif., to name only a few. He enjoyed visiting with family and friends, fishing and RV travel.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and was a decorated veteran.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1985, brother, Joseph Richard, in 1989 and mother in 1990.
Among his survivors are his wife, Maryann; sons, Tom, Tim and wife, Jolene, and Kevin; daughter, Tami Hunt Tatham and husband Buzz and granddaughters, Jessica and Stevi Tatham, all of Carson City.
Inurnment will be at Lone Mountain Cemetery.
Cremation will be at FitzHenry's Funeral Home and Crematory.
