Open burn schedule

The Carson City Fire Department will allow open burning from Oct. 16 to Nov. 14.

The purpose of the open burn is to provide residents the opportunity dispose of accumulations of weeds and yard debris in accordance with the following restrictions:

-- Carson City residents must call 887-2007 and Sierra Fire Protection District customers must call 883-5995 before burning.

-- Burn only between the hours of 7 a.m. and noon.

-- All burning must be done in an open area. No burning is allowed in containers.

-- There must be ten feet of cleared space around the fire with no burning under trees or wires.

-- Burn in small piles no larger than five feet in diameter.

-- Make sure a garden hose can reach all sides of the burn pile.

-- Petroleum products may not be burned.

-- All fires must be extinguished if wind speed picks up to more than five mph.

Any violations of burn restrictions may result in citation and suspension of burn permits.
