Assemblywoman Bonnie Parnell Tuesday formally announced she will seek a second term representing Carson City.
Parnell, a school teacher and Democrat, represents District 40, which includes most of Carson City.
During her first session, Parnell worked with city officials on legislation to expand citizen representation on the Regional Transportation Commission, helped get funding for a patrol boat for Sand Harbor State Park.
She serves on the Commission on School Safety and Juvenile Violence, the study committee to encourage business to locate in Nevada and the Human Services Committee of the National Council of State Legislatures.
She has taught school in Nevada for 25 years and was selected Nevada Teacher of the Year in 1998. She is one of 45 lawmakers selected to attend the emerging Political Leaders Conference at the University of Virginia.
No Republican candidates have officially announced plans to run against her although Larry Green, who Parnell defeated two years ago, has said he would be interested if there is support for another run.
