In celebration of National Poetry Month in April 2000, public libraries across the Silver State will receive 2,490 free collections of poetry by award-winning Western poets. Eleven different poetry volumes, all published by the University of Nevada Press, will be distributed by the Nevada State Library and Archives to 23 library jurisdictions in Nevada.
"The University of Nevada Press is very pleased to be able to promote our poets through this donation to our public libraries. We are delighted that the State Library is our partner in this poetry giveaway, so that we are able to reach as many people as possible," commented Ron Latimer, director of the University of Nevada Press.
"Nevada libraries play an important role in providing access to Western literature and have hosted programs featuring local and nationally recognized poets in recent years," said Bonnie Buckley, head of library development for the state.
Each library receiving the free collections of poetry will plan a display for National Poetry Month highlighting the recently acquired collections.
