Game Summary and Key Offensive Statistics
In a showdown for second-place, the Carson Chargers came up short against the Reno Buccaneers Friday night at Mira Loma Field in Reno. Both teams came in with 4-1 records, knowing that the outcome could have seeding implications for the upcoming playoffs. After making a mid-season change at quarterback, the Chargers came out throwing - good for 180 yards and three TDs - but key turnovers on interceptions kept the Bucs in control. The Chargers stayed mostly inside and rushed for 54 yards on 21 carries. Leading rusher, Logan Parsley rushed for 40 yards on 10 carries. The Chargers showed both successes and failures with the passing game. Jack Jacquet, in his first start of the season at quarterback, threw 19 times for 12 completions and three touchdowns. Flanker back Steve Owens was the leading receiver with six catches for 111 yards and two TDs. Owens came up with several key receptions and accounted for the majority of the Chargers' scoring. Jacquet and fullback Jimmy Potter hooked up for the first score of the game on a 25-yard pass and catch in the second quarter. Tight end Shawn Staggs contributed two catches for 16 yards and Parsley had one catch for 23 yards.
Key Defensive Players, Highlights
The Chargers' defense struggled all evening, as the Bucs spread the ball effectively across the width of the field and succeeded on several big offensive plays. The Bucs scored on a 50-yard touchdown on the game's second play from scrimmage, another 50-yard TD on the first play of their second possession and a 65-yard TD for their final score in the fourth quarter. The Chargers' defense did manage to stop the Bucs on fourth down at their 18 to stop a threat in the second quarter and the prevent defense stopped all five PAT attempts. The Chargers made 21 tackles and forced one turnover on a fumble recovery. Defensive end Nick Bacon led the charge with five tackles, followed by Potter with four while Terry Smith and Jonas Schenzel had three each. Defensive lineman William Donnelly forced a fumble in the third quarter which was recovered by linebacker Chris Ames.
Special Highlights
Defensive back and kickoff returner Kevin Holmes was injured late in fourth quarter while making a tremendous sideline tackle to stop the Bucs on fourth-and-long. After a trip to the hospital, Holmes was released. He is expected to play next week. Before being injured, Holmes returned a kickoff 58 yards and broke up a pass to deny the Bucs PAT try in the third quarter.

Carson Dragons 13, Lovelock Mustangs 7
The Carson Dragons played their best game of the season, beating the Lovelock Mustangs for their second win in a row. Dragons quarterback Matt Rutledge had an incredible night scoring both touchdowns and rushing for more than 100 yards. The offensive line, led by Kurt Anderson, Kyle Whipple, and Jermey Wollman opened holes for the backs to run through. Joshua Peacock, who had three touchdowns last week, provided several key lead blocks for Rutledge. Blake Plattsmier also rushed for more than 20 yards.
The defense still has not given up a touchdown in eight quarters, with Lovelock's only touchdown coming on a kickoff return. Defensive ends Jay Davis and Luke Carter worked to contain the Mustangs' offense inside. Dominic Cavilia, Brandon Patterson, Shane Miller, Max Kilgor, Shaun Fitzgerald and Steven Valdez stopped the Mustangs twice inside the red zone. Cavilia, Davis and Rutledge all recovered fumbles to ending Lovelock drives. Wendel and Wolford also blocked off the outside from any long runs.

The Carson mitey mites picked up their first win in two years in convincing style. Rutledge, in his first game at QB, threw a 10-yard TD pass to Brad Blankenship. Plattsmier rushed for more than 75 yards, scored a touchdown and provided field position for Peacock's three touchdown runs. Defensively, Carter and Davis combined for more than 15 tackles.

Sparks Wolfpack 22, Carson City Hawks 18
The undefeated Wolfpack took a 13-0 lead in the first half. Cheered on by injured teammates Shane Maddox and Micah Whitcome, the Hawks refused to give up.
In the second half, the Hawks came alive thanks to a touchdown pass from Mike Dittenber to Jason Alcasas. After that, the defense tightened and forced a fumble that was recovered by Robert Schneider. Jared Wulff then scored on a run, moving the Hawks to within one point. The stunned Wolfpack then drove to the Hawks' 1 before being stopped by the Hawks' defense, led by Jason Dittenber.
The Hawks were sacked for a safety by the Wolfpack. On the ensuing possession, the Wolfpack scored again
to take a 22-12 lead. The Hawks responded with another touchdown to Alcasas but missed an onside kick, ending the game.
Junior pee wees
Carson Crushers 32, Winnemucca Bucks 0
On their home field, the Crushers exploded on both sides of the ball and rolled to their second straight victory. The defense - led by Chris McBroom, 14 tackles (three sacks) and Stephen Sawyers with eight tackles - didn't allow the Bucks offense within 32 yards of the end zone.
Joey Gonzales and Aaron Server were outstanding with three tackles each. Ryan Pier, Blake Davidson and Dallas
Colodney kept a tremendous amount of pressure on the Bucks' running game all night.
The Crushers' offense erupted for a season-high 32 points thanks to the blocking of Sam Osheroff, Daniel Feagan, Jeremy Hack, Jeff Butler, Austin Bitisillei, Aric Burlingame, and Kyle Coday. The offensive line proved it can play
with the best in the league. Mike Gonzales, Derrick Holland, and Ryan Riggs combined with quarterback Gary Groth for 216 yards rushing. Holland and Riggs each had one touchdown, while Gonzales ran for two. Riggs also completed two passes to Mark Gwaltney, one for a touchdown. Groth connected with Tony Fagen twice and Philip Maier once, to round out a balanced attack.
