The Bureau of Land Management has scheduled three public meetings to solicit public comment on a special recreation permit application for the Burning Man, a recreational and artistic event, in the Black Rock Desert playa from Aug. 28 through Sept. 4.

Each meeting will start at 7 p.m.:

-- Tuesday, Feb. 29, the bureau's office, 1340 Financial Boulevard, Reno

-- Wednesday, March 1, Gerlach Community Center, Gerlach

-- Thursday, March 2, Pershing County Community Center, 820 Sixth St., Lovelock.

The bureau is interested in gathering comments on environmental concerns to be addressed in the upcoming environmental assessment, including possible alternate locations, safety concerns and potential environmental impacts. Event organizers estimate this year's Burning Man will attract about 28,000 participants.

People who would like to be placed on a mailing list to receive information from the bureau during the permit process may send their name and address to the Winnemucca Field Office, Attention Les Boni, 5100 E. Winnemucca Blvd., Winnemucca 89445 or burngman@nv.blm.gov.
