Rasner wins for Pack again

Carson City's Darrell Rasner is still perfect for the University of Nevada baseball team.

Rasner won for the second time in as many starts on Sunday afternoon, as the freshman right-hander limited Santa Clara to five hits over seven innings while helping the Wolf Pack to a 6-3 non-conference victory at Buck Shaw Stadium.

Don Price hit 3-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBIs to lead Nevada's 10-hit attack. Price delivered a run-scoring single in the first inning, doubled another run home in the third and added a solo home run in the fifth as Nevada built a 5-1 lead.

The Wolf Pack took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. Santa Clara got on the scoreboard in the second when Chris Jakubauskas tagged and scored from third on a pop foul.

Rasner allowed three runs (two earned), while walking one and striking out five. The 1999 Carson High School graduated allowed five hits, stuck out 11 and walked none while beating Cal State Northridge 3-0 last Sunday.

Nevada's George Moran came on to retire six straight batters in the eighth and ninth innings to earn his first save. Moran struck out two.

Nevada (3-3) plays again this afternoon at Stanford. The 2 p.m. contest will be broadcast on KPTT 630 AM.
