RENO, Nev. - More than $22 million in Pentagon spending for Nevada has survived a round of budget cuts in a House-Senate conference committee, Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., said.

The bill on the way to President Clinton's desk includes money for the Nevada Air National Guard and the Hawthorne Army Depot in Mineral County.

The biggest chunk, $12 million, would go to the Reno-based Sierra Nevada Corp., which is building an automated aircraft landing system for the Marines Corps, he said.

The Nevada Air National Guard stands to receive $7 million to purchase a special satellite system developed after the Persian Gulf War to provide 3-D terrain imagery and maps for combat forces.

The spending bill also includes $3 million for the Hawthorne Army Depot to create the nation's first hot gas decontamination facility. It would be used to remove explosive residue from weapons and other military equipment.
