Results of the Walker Lake Derby

The big President's Day weekend fishing derby at Walker Lake on Feb. 19-20 attracted about 400 fishermen and approximately 180 boats.


There were a total of 35 trout checked in during the two-day contest.


In the adult division, Jim Smith of Reno had the heaviest fish with a 7.4 pound cutthroat. It was caught with a Tor-P-Do lure while Smith was trolling in front of Sportsmen's Beach.


In the adult blind bogey contest, Ed Menesini of Yerington won first place with a two-fish total weight of 9.1 pounds. He trolled from a boat. Menesini came the closest to matching the pre-determined blind bogey weight of 19.6 pounds.


In second place, Ricky Gonzales of Hawthorne fished from shore with Tor-P-Do lures. His two trout weighed a total of 8.12 pounds vs. the blind bogey weight of 13.4 pounds.


Third place was taken by Suzanne Boyer of Round Mountain. She trolled from a boat with Tor-P-Do lures. Her two trout weighed 7.10 pounds vs. the blind bogey weight of 8.2 pounds.


In the youth contest, Chase Clark of Las Vegas caught a 3.6 pound cutthroat with a Tor-P-Do lure for the heaviest fish.


In the youth contest, Wes Fletcher of Fallon came the closest to matching the pre-determined blind bogey weight of 2.7 pounds. Fletcher's trout weighed 2.0 pounds.
