Nevada Democrats open their state convention at noon today at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
The keynote speaker as floor sessions begin Saturday morning is Rep. Janice Shakowsky of Illinois. California Senator Barbara Boxer will speak at the Saturday night awards dinner.
Outgoing U.S. Senator Richard Bryan and former Senator Howard Cannon will both be honored by the convention along with former national committeewoman Gertrude Gottschalk. Bryan and fellow Senator Harry Reid will speak at the convention along with Rep. Shelley Berkley and U.S. Senate candidate Ed Bernstein.
Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman and Clark County Commissioners Dario Herrera and Yvonne Atkinson-Gates will also be on hand as will Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa.
The convention will open with a series of "grassroots workshops" on subjects ranging from campaign planning and budgets to targeting voters, recruiting volunteers and communications.
The platform committee begins meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday. Election of national delegates is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
The convention wraps up Sunday with approval of the platform and the first meeting of the state central committee.
