WASHINGTON - An Illinois company is recalling 34,000 toy baby phones because the toy's ball-shaped antenna can detach, posing a choking risk to young children.

Vtech Industries, based in Wheeling, Ill., received one report of a child choking and nine reports of the plastic balls detaching from the toy, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday.

The ''Little Smart Soft Songs Baby Phone'' is yellow with a blue padded border and a yellow ball-shaped antenna. It has a mirror, four colorful talking musical buttons, a ringing light-up phone button and a red on/off button.

Writing on the toy reads ''Soft Songs Baby Phone 39100'' and ''VTECH.''

Wal-mart stores sold the phones nationwide from January through May for about $10.

The safety commission advises consumers to take the toy phones away from children immediately.

For more information, consumers can contact VTech at 1-800-521-2010 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. EDT Monday through Friday.
