Reno, Sparks and Washoe County are sponsoring a community planning session to make sure area residents give the Army Corps of Engineers their view of flood management in the Truckee Meadows.
The purpose of the planning effort to to design the $116 million flood management project which experts say is necessary to prevent disasters such as the 1997 New Year's flood that hit the Reno area.
The community coalition will hold its first meeting April 8 at the Reno-Sparks Association of Realtors Building east of Meadowood Mall. The session begins at 9 a.m.
Officials say that will kick off a six-month community planning process that will include four such meetings.
