Two Carson City residents are among nine people being considered for the top job at the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.
Pam Wilcox and Carl Hasty will be among the candidates interviewed next week before the TRPA board makes its choice next Wednesday.
Wilcox said Wednesday she is pleased to be among those who will be interviewed for the executive director post next week.
"It's an honor to be considered, and Lake Tahoe is important," she said. She declined to comment further. "I don't think it's appropriate for me to comment on that," she said. "It's a process that will go forward in a public manner."
Wilcox has been the administrator of Nevada State Lands since 1981 and has been the executive officer of the Nevada TRPA since 1993. She also coordinates Nevada's efforts at Tahoe, including overseeing a multi-agency team of employees focusing on Tahoe restoration. She has a master's degree in political science from Northwestern University in Illinois.
Hasty, also a Carson City resident, has worked for TRPA since 1990. He has coordinated its environmental improvement program since 1997 and has been a planner and the water quality program manager for the agency. He has a master's degree from the California State Polytechnic Institute, Pamona.
The other finalists are:
n Jan Wold of Reno, who retired as forest supervisor for the 890,000-acre Stanislaus National Forest in 1997.
n Bill Allayaud, a principal planner for Salt Lake City since 1997.
n Mark Carey of Bellevue, Wash., land services manager for the King County Department of Development and Environmental Services in Washington since 1995.
n Thomas Clarke, a Redwood Shores, Calif., resident, and attorney who is a shareholder and chair of the environmental practice committee of a 150-attorney California law firm.
n Roger Hedrick, a resident of Lafayette, La., director of the consulting firm Hedrick Community Planning and Design..
n Gregory James of Bishop, Calif., director of California's Inyo County Water Department since 1981.
n Phil Williams of Spokane, Wash., an infrastructure management specialist for the CH2Mhill consulting firm in Washington,
Jerome Waldie, the California Senate Rules Committee appointee to TRPA's governing board, said the list of candidates will be narrowed during interviews Monday and Tuesday. The 14-member board will then make its choice on Wednesday.
The new director will guide the bi-state agency as it tries to implement its environmental improvement program, thus organizing construction of $900 million worth of restoration programs that experts say are needed to save Tahoe's famed clarity.
Jim Baetge, executive director for five years, left in January for health reasons. The acting executive director, Jerry Wells, will leave May 26 to take a position in Oregon. He had been the 10th finalist before the announcement.
