Two drivers extracted in Saturday crashes

Two drivers had to be extracted from their seats by Carson City Fire Department rescue crews following separate two-car collisions Saturday.

The first occurred about 12:35 p.m. in the 4100 block of North Carson Street. Daniel St. Clair of Reno said he was driving his Honda Civic northbound when a Toyota Corolla pulled out of a parking lot in front of him.

The Toyota apparently was going to turn left and head southbound when St. Clair's Civic struck the Toyota in the driver's side doors. He said he had no time to stop when the Toyota pulled in front of him.

Rescue workers spent about 20 minutes moving obstacles and securing the female driver of the Toyota to a backboard before removing her from the car. She was taken to Carson-Tahoe Hospital, the transferred to Washoe Medical Center.

The second two-car collision was on North Saliman Road in front of Carson High School about 4:45 p.m.

In that accident, too, one car had been struck in the area of the driver's door by the second and rescue workers had to use tools to make openings before removing the driver. Two people were taken to Washoe Medical center following that accident.

The earlier accident was investigated by the Nevada Highway Patrol and the later by the Carson City Sheriff's Department. More specific details were not available from either by press time.
