Beverly Willard was elected to a four-year term as national Republican committeewoman at the recent Nevada Republican Convention in Carson City.
"I'm extremely excited," said Willard, a Carson Valley resident since 1993. "I've worked very hard in the Republican Party and it's just kind of a natural progression.
"I have been chairman of the Douglas County Republican Central Committee and state party secretary for the last two years. I really feel that it's quite an honor to be national committeewoman. It gives me a chance to bring some of Nevada's concerns to the national committee."
Willard will attend the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia July 30-Aug. 5 as an alternate delegate.
She is also a member of the Sierra Nevada Republican Women and associate member of the Lake Tahoe Nevada Republican Women, Douglas County Republican Women and Carson City Republican Women.
Each state elects a national committeewoman and committeeman who represent the state with the Republican National Committee as a liaison between the national committee and the state party.
At the state party level, Willard serves on the finance, candidate recruitment and fund-raising committees.
State party bylaws dictate that the committeeman and committeewoman can't be from same county. When Tom Wiesner was chosen from Clark County, Willard's Clark County opponent withdrew. Willard was elected over former Nevada Treasurer Patty Cafferata.
Cafferata was elected to the Nevada Assembly in 1981 and elected state treasurer from 1983-87.
