Help celebrate National Trails Day by competing in the first Washoe Valley Challenge Triathlon on June 3.
The triathlon will consist of teams made up of one horseback rider, one mountain biker and one runner.
The competing teams will be randomly selected from the three categories.
There is a limit of 30 entries in each of the three categories.
Entry fees are $25 per person.
There will be a hosted pasta dinner for the competitors on June 2 at 6 p.m. at Bully's II, just off the Mt. Rose Highway.
On Saturday, the first horseback rider will start at 9 a.m. from the Washoe State Park equestrian area.
Horses will leave at one-minute intervals. The riders will follow a trail to the Jumbo Grade pit, a distance of approximately six miles. Then the horse must recover to a pulse rate of 64 before the bike rider can leave.
The bicyclist will leave the pit and travel through the New Washoe City residential streets and connecting trails to the North Boat Landing on Big Washoe Lake, a distance of about nine miles.
The runners will leave the parking area of the boat landing as soon as they touch the hand of their bicycle teammate.
The runners will run across the state park back to the equestrian area, a distance of about three miles.
The winners will be the teams with the fastest combined times for a team.
