A South Lake Tahoe woman, who sought medical treatment after having an altercation with another woman, was found dead in her trailer Monday morning at the 2300 block of Eloise Avenue, South Lake Tahoe Police Department Detective Michael Dente reported.

The death of Gayle Newman, 42, was being treated as an "unattended death" Monday, but after an autopsy and more investigation police arrested Ramona Hand, a 42-year-old South Lake Tahoe resident, Wednesday on suspicion of manslaughter.

According to Dente, Hand physically assaulted Newman on June 15. Newman sought medical treatment two days later at Barton Memorial Hospital because of injuries sustained during the fight.

Newman was released from the hospital and remained at home complaining of pain, neighbors reported. When a friend went to check on her Monday around 11 a.m., Newman was found dead.

Dente said the cause of death is still under investigation, but an autopsy on Wednesday did lead investigators to arrest Hand, who is in El Dorado County Jail with bail set at $15,000.
