SAND HARBOR STATE PARK - The Washoe County sheriff's office is considering charges against a member of an inmate work crew who may have harassed a boy at Sand Harbor beach.

The alleged incident occurred Tuesday in a bathroom at the popular beach at Lake Tahoe south of Incline Village.

A Sand Harbor park ranger filed a report that said the inmate allegedly grabbed a 7-year-old boy by the shoulder and scared him. An 8-year-old boy who was in the bathroom also witnessed the incident, the sheriff's office said.

The boys were part of a school field trip that was visiting the beach for the day. The inmate was working on a crew assigned to Incline Village and was supervised by a civilian work crew supervisor.

Sheriff's detectives are conducting an investigation to determine whether the inmate should be charged with harassing or annoying a minor child.

The inmate is currently in custody at the Washoe County jail on an unrelated misdemeanor charge of open container, authorities said. He has a history of misdemeanor charges, but they do not include any offenses against children. No names have been released.

Sand Harbor is the same state park with Texas Gov. George W. Bush gave a presidential campaign speech on Thursday.
