WASHINGTON - Based on inaccurate information from a police official, The Associated Press reported erroneously April 24 that a boy shot at the National Zoo had died, and subsequently reported he was declared brain dead so he could be kept alive by machines for organ donation.

Doctors at Children's Hospital National Medical Center say the boy, 11, is not brain dead but in critical condition and responding to treatment.
