Obituary Janie Lavada Martin

A memorial service for Janie Lavada Martin, 82, a Carson City resident, will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Mrs. Martin died Dec. 13, 2001, in Carson City. She was born Sept. 20, 1919, in Antlers, Okla., to Hilliard Freeman and Martha Katherine McNeill Smith.

She was born in Indian territory and moved by covered wagon to Texas where she was married. She came to California after the Depression and lived in California, Oregon and Nevada.

She graduated from Petit High School in Texas where she was an active member of the basketball team.

She lived in the Dayton-Carson City area for the last four years.

Mrs. Martin was a railroad timekeeper, past mistress clerk for J.C. Penney and a school bus driver. She was very active in the Seventh Day Adventist Church and their Dorcas Society, the ladies auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fitzhugh Lee Martin, on Feb. 8, 1979.

Among her survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law Ronald and Linda Martin of Dayton and Richard and Kathy Martin of Carson City; daughter and son-in-law Debra and Gregg Klug of Eltopia, Wash.; 16 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Sutter Cemetery in Sutter, Calif.
