Street dance

The Karson Kruzers and the Nugget kicked off the first of three street dances Saturday to raise money for charity.

"We put on our street dance once a month all summer long," said Jack Anderson, president of the Karson Kruzers. "The money we get out of this goes to middle school kids for Christmas."

Saturday's dance at North Carson and Caroline streets attracted about 400 people, Anderson said.

"It went real well. We had quite a bit of a crowd," he said.

Usually about 350 to 400 people show up, though sometimes the crowd reaches 500.

Every year the Kruzers support about 75 underprivileged middle school and high school students. Last year they gave 90 students a $25 credit card to be used at Kmart for anything they wanted.

Kmart paid for $5 of each card and the Kruzers paid for the other $20.

All of the street dances are free. Stevie and the Stingrays provided live music at the dance and Bill McClain was the deejay.

The Carson Nugget pays for the band and the deejay, and donates dinners that the Kruzers give away as door prizes.

This is the third year the Karson Kruzers have sponsored the street dance, their main fund raiser. Drinks and T-shirts will be sold at the event to make money for the organization.

Two more dances are scheduled for this summer, one Aug. 18 and the other Sept. 22 from 7-11 p.m.
