Ryan Hudson logged a 10th-place finish in the 1,500-meter freestyle and Justin Barber took 11th in the 200 butterfly to provide highlights for the Carson Tigersharks Sunday on the final day of the USA Swimming/Speedo Sectional Long Course Championships in San Jose.
Barber, who is headed into his junior year at Carson High School, turned a time of 2 minutes, 12.32 seconds in the consolation final during competition at the Frank Fiscalini International Swim Center at Independence High School.
Hudson went 16:48.22 to finish 10th in the 1,500 freestyle and Tigersharks teammate Ryan Costella took 14th with a season-best time of 17:06.17.
Evan Fischer, a Carson High graduate who is headed into his sophomore year at the University of Tennessee, turned a time of 2:34.10 in the 200 breaststroke and then came back with a season-best 2:31.13 in the consolation finals to finish 13th overall.
Lauren Costella also clocked a 2:25.19 in the 200 butterfly in what amounted to a tune-up for the USA Senior Nationals two weeks from now in Clovis, Calif.
Ryan Theilemann turned a personal best time of 1:03.94 in the 100 butterfly and his sister, Tara Theilemann, swam 1:03.72 in the 100 freestyle prelims.
Tigersharks coach Jim Puleo described the trip as a success.
"Overall, I thought the kids did real well," Puleo said. "They were very focused, and the thing I really enjoyed was the teamwork they showed; the way they got together at the end of the pool to cheer each other on. I thought that was real neat."
