Local soccer teams won five of seven divisions in this past weekend's Kit Carson Shootout.
Carson Valley teams won the under-10, under-12, under-14 girls divisions and Carson City teams won the under-14 boys and under-19 co-ed divisions.
In the under-14 girls division, the Carson Valley Freedom defeated North Tahoe 4-0 in the finals. Alysha Vecchione, the Freedom's leading scorer in the tournament, Delaney Battista, Sophie Duguay and Alicia Sturgess all scored for Carson Valley. The Freedom went 4-0 and outscored their opponents 15-0.
In under-12 girls, the Carson Valley Independents beat the South Tahoe Sensations 3-1 in the finals. Carson Valley went 5-0 and outscored its opponents 14-1. Brittany DeLaurentis was Carson Valley's leading scorer and scored twice in the finals.
In under-10 girls, the Carson Valley Orange Crushers beat the South Tahoe Hot Spurs 4-1 in the finals. The Crushers went 3-0-1 and outscored their opponents 10-2.
In the under-19 co-ed division, Carson City Red beat Mammoth 2-1 in the finals.
CARSON CITY BLUES WIN
The Carsity City Blue under-14 boys team overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat the Incline Panthers 3-2 in double overtime.
Royal Good scored the winning goal set up by a long kick from goalie Bud Kop. Troy Szczotka scored on a header and Good also scored on a header on an assist from Jeremiah Teeter.
Carson won its first three games, beating the Bishop Broncos, the Truckee Lightning and the Carson Valley Orange Crushers, all by 3-0 scores.
Against the Broncos, Jake Kilpatrick, Good and Tyler Metcalf all scored. In Carson's second game, Evan Thayer scored on a penalty kick and one from the corner and Szczotka scored on a header off of Teeter's corner kick.
In the third game, Good scored twice and Logan Alt scored the other goal.
Jeremy Vondracek, Derwin Leigh, Kevin Brush, Ryan Kirkhoven, Matt Mitchell, Anthony Ortega and Teeter led the defense. Kop was the only goalie in the tournament to post three shutouts.
Carson's offense was led by Good, Alt, Thayer, Mitchell, Kilpatrick and Metcalf. The midfield was led by Tom Edwards.
