Douglas High graduate Ashley Sulprizio figures to be in the mix for the University of Nebraska women's soccer team. Where exactly still remains the question.
The 6-foot-1 former Tiger goalie is entering her freshman season at Nebraska and will look to battle sophomore Erin Miller and junior Leah Lamale for the starting job.
It appears, though, as Miller is the current frontrunner.
In Nebraska's preseason intrasquad scrimmage, Sulprizio, Miller, and Lamale all shared time. But Miller played all 90 minutes in the Cornhuskers 1-0 exhibition win over top-ranked North Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C. Miller made six saves in the game.
Then in Nebraska's season opener against Arizona, a 4-2 win, Miller again played all 90 minutes and made two saves. Miller was a defender last season, but spend most of the spring season adjusting to playing goalie. Lamale was the Cornhuskers No. 2 goalie last season, seeing action in four games. In 1999, she also appeared in four games.
Nebraska (1-0) is currently ranked No. 5 in the nation. At Douglas, Sulprizio led the Tigers to the 2000 Northern 4A championship. She was a two-time Northern 4A selection in her junior and senior years.
