(RENO, Nev.) - According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as of 5 p.m. today, all air traffic operations are suspended until 12 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST), 9 a.m. Pacific Standard Time (PST). However, this could change.

The FAA has asked that all airports operate with heighten security measures until flights resume. The Airport Authority of Washoe County (AAWC), in conjunction with the Reno Police Department, completed a security sweep of all the Reno/Tahoe International Airport facilities. All aircraft have been pulled away from the terminal and will be under the security of the Airport police, as well as local law enforcement officers.

Heightened security will continue at the airport throughout the night and continue after flights are scheduled to resume, possibly as early as tomorrow.

The public is advised not to come to the airport due to suspension of air service at this time. The public will be informed as soon as the airport opens for ticketing.

When service resumes, the airport asks that passengers be patient with airline personnel as they accommodate the travel requirements.

Local hotel/casino properties have accommodated passengers that are unable to reach their final destinations.

The airport requests that anyone requiring airline information contact the airlines directly via their 800 telephone numbers, not at Reno/Tahoe International.

For questions on the status of the Reno/Tahoe International Airport call 775-328-6400 or visit the airport's website at www.renoairport.com.
