Participants in the Reno Air Races are grounded today but are continuing preparations at the Stead International Airport for Thursday.

The Federal Aviation Administration has prohibited flight today but organizers are expecting the ban to be lifted by the time the races are scheduled to begin.

"The plan right now is to proceed," said airport manager Skip Polak. "As soon as the FAA lifts its waiver, they'll be flying again."

However, Polak said precautions will be taken.

"They will not sacrifice safety in order to do this," he said.

The races will run Thursday through Sunday. For more information, call 972-6663.
