Ciarra Christian shot an 89 to lead Carson High School to eighth-place as a team during its Northern 4A match at Washoe Golf Course in Reno on Monday.
The Senators shot 540 as a team as they remained in contention for a berth in the Northern 4A Regional Tournament, which will be held Oct. 8-9 at Eagle Valley Golf Course in Carson City. Eight teams will qualify for the regional, and coming into Monday's match, Carson was seventh in the regional standings by a three-point edge over McQueen and Douglas.
The Senators were coming off a season-best sixth-place showing one week before during a match at Rosewood Lakes in Reno.
"It's going to be a scramble there to see who finishes seventh, eighth and ninth," Carson coach Paul Croghan said. "As long as we can stay in the top eight, I think we'll be in good shape."
Region-leading Galena won the match with a 462 total, with Ardea Canepa and Lux Gill finishing second and third individually with respective scores of 85 and 86. Fallon's Darby Detomasi shot 11-over par 83 to earn medalist honors.
Christian's 89 was only six shots behind the leader and the sixth best individual score overall. The sophomore capped off her round with a birdie on the par-five 18th hole.
Lindsay Farnworth shot 104 and Elizabeth Rankl had a career best 109 for the Senators. Ashley Faber shot 117 and Gabrielle Gallegos 121 to round out the team scoring.
Two matches remain on the regular season schedule - next Tuesday at Lake Tahoe Golf Course in Tahoe Paradise and Oct. 1 at Carson Valley Golf Course in Gardnerville.
