The Carson City junior pee wee Silver Senators bounced back from its season-opening loss one week before to beat the Reno Panthers 13-0 on Friday night at Mira Loma Park in Reno.
It was a defensive struggle early, resulting in a scoreless first quarter.
Then in the second quarter, the Panthers turned the ball over on downs at midfield. The Senators drove deep into Panthers territory, but fumbled the ball on the 10-yard line.
The Senators defense halted the Panther offense, thanks to a key tackle by Savannah Flansburg, followed by a fumble, caused and recovered by Senators linebacker Patrick Riggs on the Panthers' 16 yard line.
The Senators' Sam Osheroff caught a 10-yard pass to set up a 4-yard touchdown run by
quarterback Riggs, giving Carson a 6-0 lead that stood at halftime.
The third quarter was more of the same for both teams. The Panthers offensive drive was cut short by a 4-yard sack by the Senators' Nick Martinez. The Panthers turned the ball over on downs, but again, the Senators were unable to capitalize.
Carson's offense came to life in the fourth quarter. The offensive line, including Matt Robinson, Justin Gragg, Aaron Mangione, Ryan Cruse and Derek Rodriguez began to open some holes and set up Eric Murphy's 32-yard touchdown run. The Senators successfully
converted the extra point to make it 13-0.
The Panthers' final possession ended when Carson's Tyler Charles intercepted a pass.
The junior pee wee Silver Senators take on the Sparks Cardinals on Friday at 8 p.m. at Governor's Field in Carson City.
