The Galena football team continued to chart new territory with a 48-0 rout on Friday at Reed.

"I've just never been in this situation before," Galena coach Greg Sakelaris said. "We came out and played well offensively and defensively."

Graham Munro kicked three field goals, Jared Cartinella returned the opening kickoff in the second half 95 yards for a touchdown and Robbie Lund scored on touchdown runs of 32, 52 and 8 yards for the Grizzlies (3-1, 1-0).

Munro began the scoring with a 43-yard field goal and Lund scored on a 32-yard run to give Galena a 10-0 lead after one quarter. Munro kicked 42 and 26-yard field goals and Luke Penrose scored on a 1-yard run to give the Grizzlies a 22-0 halftime lead.

After Cartinella's kickoff return, Lund scored on a 52-yard run to give Galena a 34-0 lead after three quarters. Brandon Hendrix scored on a 16-yard run and Lund scored on an 8-yard run to finish the scoring.

Galena's defense allowed just two first downs and didn't allow Reed into Grizzly territory in the first half. The Grizzlies also had a goal line stand in the second half and forced five turnovers.

Vann Adams and Warren Whitley intercepted passes and Lund, Andy Holt and Barrett Young recovered fumbles.

"It's just been an unbelievable team effort," Sakelaris said. "It's just guys are taking care of responsibilities and good things happen. The kids are taking a lot of pride in their defense."

Lund gained 142 yards on 12 carries, Penrose had 81 yards on 16 carries and Hendrix ran for 73 yards on 13 carries.

LOWRY 41, FERNLEY 10

Lowry scored 35 unanswered points in the second half after the Vaqueros had taken a 10-6 halftime lead in a battle between two unbeaten Northern 3A teams.

The Vaqueros struck first on a 97-yard scoring pass from Matt Lambeth to Shane Stokes. Tim Hines also kicked a 31-yard field goal for Fernley (3-1).

But Lowry (4-0) scored twice on fumble returns, including a 50-yard fumble return by Brian Watterson. Travis Crynkovich scored on a 56-yard run and finished with 143 yards on 12 carries.

ROP 18, YERINGTON 6

Yerington rolled up 239 yards on the ground, but couldn't take advantage of several scoring chances in its loss to Rite of Passage.
