The Carson Senators Midget Pop Warner football team lost 32-7 to the Fallon Bullfrogs Friday night in Fallon.
Despite the lopsided score at the end of the first half, the Senators came back strong, holding Fallon to six points and scoring their first TD of the season in the fourth quarter.
Fallon scored twice in the first quarter on 50-yard passing plays, but the Senator defense held on the extra point attempts. Fallon continued to dominate the Senator defense in the second quarter, scoring twice on two sustained drives, highlighted by a leaping catch in the end zone to put the Bullfrogs ahead 26-0.
The Senators answered in the third quarter with a sustained drive to the 5-yard line before being shut down. Fallon responded with a 70-yard run for a score.
The Senators continued to fight back, finally succeeding with a 31-yard passing play from Jack Jacquet to Steve Mandoki. Jacquet scored the extra point.
Carson drops to 0-3 with a bye on the schedule coming up.
The Senators were led offensively by Kevin Holmes, who rushed for 54 yards on nine carries. Offensive linemen Caleb Kondor, Brandon Mackie, Mark Gonzales, Justin Kilgore and Blake Anderson performed well in the second half, according to the Senators' coaching staff.
Jacquet completed 6 of 10 passes for 70 yards. Jacquet and Mandoki hooked up for 65 yards on five completions.
The Senators were led defensively by Jeremy Gray with four tackles, Chris Ames and Kevin Holmes with three, Jason Dittenber, Robert Frederick with two and Mark Gonzales, Casey Cahill, Jason Sebring, Dallas Miller, Kyle Cahill, Tyler Jackson and Jacquet with one each. The Senators will play the Sparks Raiders at 8 p.m. at Governors Field on Friday, Oct. 5.
JUNIOR PEE WEES
The Carson junior pee wee Silver Senators (1-2-0) lost 38-32 to the Sparks Cardinals in the final minutes of the fourth quarter on Friday night at Governor's Field.
The Cardinals returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and early 6-0 lead. On their first possession, quarterback Patrick Riggs led a 40-yard march to tie the game.
Carson's defense, including Chris Canonigo and Nick Thun, stopped the Cardinals and forced a turnover on downs. The Senators came back to score a touchdown and extra point in the first minutes of the second quarter, giving them a 13-6 lead.
An interception by Carson's Riggs cut short another Cardinal drive. Carson running backs Todd Banko and Eric Murphy moved the ball down the field setting up a Senator touchdown.
The Cardinals ran for a touchdown on their next possession, but the Senators and scored a touchdown when Quarterback Riggs ran in a fake reverse.
The Cardinals scored in the final minute of the second quarter to cut Carson's lead to 26-19 at halftime.
The Senators first possession of the second half ended in a touchdown. Late in the third quarter, the Cardinals marched down field scoring a touchdown and converting the extra point pull within 32-26 at the end of the third quarter.
Sparks scored in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, resulting in a 32-32 tie. Then in the final minute of the fourth quarter, a Cardinals' running back broke loose to score the winning touchdown.
The Silver Senators host the Sparks Seahawks at 8 p.m. on Oct. 5 at Governor's Field.
