Escapee still eludes police

VIRGINIA CITY -- A Dayton man who escaped from the Storey County Jail this weekend is suspected of stealing a Mound House construction company truck hours after he scaled the razor-wire topped fence at the jail, a spokesman for the Storey County Sheriff's Department said Monday.

'We believe that he probably left on foot down to Silver City. Along with Lyon County we are investigating the theft of a construction vehicle from Frehner Construction storage yard in Mound House," said Sgt. Jerry Pedersen. "We found footprints around where the vehicle was parked from shoes that matched what the inmate was last seen wearing. This matches his M.O."

The truck is a white Ford Utility truck with "Frehner Construction" stenciled on the side.

Inmate Troy William Enloe, 30, was in the Storey County Jail on a gross misdemeanor charge of possession of stolen property. He was awaiting sentencing and was facing about a year in jail when he disappeared from the exercise yard around 3 p.m. Saturday.

Officials believe Enloe, a lifelong resident of the area, used a bed sheet to protect himself from the razor wire that lines the top of the 12-foot fence.

Pedersen said Enloe has a history of auto theft and drug use.

"He's not a person I would call mentally stable," he said.

Pedersen said this is the first time in 10 years that someone has escaped from the jail. Because of this, officials are considering covering the top of the yard with fencing as well.

Pedersen said officials don't believe Enloe is dangerous.

Enloe is described as 6-feet-tall, 170 pounds, with blond hair, blue eyes and a goatee. He was last seen wearing black and white striped prison clothing.
